Iran, Saudi Arabia Sign Landmark Accord to Expand Mutual Cooperation

TEHRAN Iran and Saudi Arabia signed an agreement here on Wednesday to determine areas of joint investments and mutual cooperation in the economic, commercial, technical, scientific, cultural and sports fields. Industrial and mineral cooperation, transportation and commercial transactions, providing facilities for Iranian and Saudi Arabian traders and expansion of tourism are among the provisions of the agreement, signed by Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi and his Saudi Arabian counterpart Saud al-Faisal.
The agreement envisages rendering consular services, enhancing cooperation in air and sea transportation and protecting the environment. Talking to reporters after signing the accord, Kharrazi expressed hope that positive impacts of the agreement would lead to strengthening of bilateral relations in all fields. Al-Faisal said for his part that he was confident that the agreement would consolidate friendship and cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia. Al-Faisal, who arrived here on Tuesday heading a high-ranking delegation, have so far conferred with President Mohammad Khatami and Majlis Speaker Ali Akbar Nateq Nouri. (IRNA)
